So my motherboard died recently and rather than just replace it I'd like to also replace the processor and memory. I'm still relatively new to the homebuild scene and while I can usually figure out compatibility and general quality I'm always appreciative of any input anyone has for me.

What I have now:

550 watt power supply http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817341022

graphics card http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150316&cm_re=geforce_9800_gt-_-14-150-316-_-Product

What I am thinking of getting:

AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition Deneb 3.2GHz 4 x 512KB L2 Cache 6MB L3 Cache Socket AM3 125W Quad-Core Processor - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103674

ASUS M4A77TD AM3 AMD 770 ATX AMD Motherboard - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131603

Kingston HyperX 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1800 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820104183

That's not bad. IMO, the Phenom II is one of the best CPUs for the price. Cannot comment on the MoBo, as I've not been into AMD since Intel's Core2 Duo inception. I can vouch for the memory though, got eight GB of it in my OC'd gaming rig.

If April 26th ain't too long a wait for AM3 they will release the next gen 800 series mobos with native SATA 6GB/s The 890GX is out but if u dun need CF then perhaps the incoming, cheaper 870/880G is your cuppa tea hehe From the pricing 890GX is usurping the pricepoint of the 790GX which i guess will slowly be discontinued? So at 770s now at $60-80 thats awesome news for 870!
