i've been waiting forever for the core i7 chips to drop in price. they have been available for a very long time now and the 920 is basically the same price it has been forever. what is going on in the world didn't these things used to drop in price fairly quickly?

They normally drop once there is something better becoming mainstream but since there is really no competition at the performance level they offer and they are selling well at the current price point there is no incentive for them to drop the pricing.

Actually, there is.

Funny thing is most people wont even wait or realize this price drop and will just buy it now. Then a few months down the line they realize they could have saved a few hundred dollars.

I purchased the new i7 875 unlocked processor. Intel dropped the price over $200.00 to about $349.95.

$349 has been the MSRP of the 875k since it was released. It has seen only small price drops, such as $329 on newegg.

Microcenter has had that price since the 930 released, and the 920 was that price for probably a year+.

Why?

As long as they are still close to the best out there, they will stay around the same pricing.

Since even the best AMD X6 1090T loses to an i7 in most cases, don't expect to see a price drop until Bulldozer's release in Q4.
