Not really a question per se, more of an observation or rant. I'm building a new PC, using a 5850. When I bought my components I found an XFX Black Edition for $319. I want to eventually get another to crossfire, but now I won't be any time soon. I thought when Fermi was launched that prices would go down closer to what they were at launch, say $260-280 for a 5850, but I doubt that is going to happen now. And if the benchmarks hold up and Fermi's price per watt is what it appears to be, there is absolutely no reason for ATI to lower the prices.
But now, perhaps due to rarity, prices for 5000 series cards are going nuts! Especially for the 5850/70. I can find a 5870 for around $410-430, and the 5850 seems to be climbing to around $330. The Black Edition I bought 1 WEEK AGO is now up to $379 on the same site I bought it for $319.
Does anyone think this is ATI's / retailers reaction to perceived dominance by the 5000 series, or just a supply issue?
