Hello,
I am having trouble opening all .exe files in windows 7. I don't have a virus protection. I had it before I did a system restore, and had a free version of avg. It is now gone and now I cannot get any antivirus dowloads what soever. What do I do?

Register or log in to remove.

If you have access to another computer, you can download and burn Malwarebytes or Superantispyware (free editions) and then run them in Safe Mode.

Chances are you will have to format and reinstall your OS though.

Hi,

This problem occurs when your .exe file associations are broken. This is usually caused by a virus/malware that changes the default file associations in Windows. Follow these instructions to fix this problem:

Download exeHelper from one of these two links: Link1, Link 2 Double-click on exeHelper to run the fix. A black window should pop up. Once the fix is complete, press any key to close.

Then try following the steps in this virus/malware removal guide: http://www.selectrealsecurity.com/ [...] oval-guide

It contains instructions that will remove most malware infections.

I hope this helps you,
Brian

If possible, run #1 and #2 and post the log file.

Ok, I just ran it again, and it said the same message, in a little box at the bottom of my screen. I don't see anything else.

It should be at C:\ProgramData\Spybot - Search & Destroy\Logs.

Did it find a virus again?

Reply to Nikorr

In the mean time, what virus protection are running on the PC?

Reply to Nikorr

Can u boot in the safe mode with networking (Keep pressing F8 right after start of the PC!)

Reply to Nikorr

I am glad you asked me that. This is the reason why I believe I am having this problem in the first plae. I did a system restore on 10-24-11. Before I did that I had avg2011free edition. After I did the system restore my virus protection was wiped out for some reason. I did the system restore because my computer was acting weird after I had downloaded something. After that I did not have any virus protection, nor could I download one from the internet, or from my flash drive.

Ok, will try this step. What do I do after?

Reply to yolandagreen1974

Try to get
http://www.simplysup.com/tremover/update3.html
http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html

And run Malwarebytes in the safe mode. And spybot after that in the safe mode too.
