Hi all! So I read the sticky on the guidelines to overclock the Ivy Bridge i7-3770K which is the exact processor I have. There was a lot of terminology I was not familiar with so I think some of it didn't make sense but from what I understood I just mess with the multiplier and voltage.

But how do I tell if its stable? How do I know when voltage needs to be adjusted and not the multiplier?

System

CPU: i7-3770K
MOBO: Asus Sabertooth z77
GPU: EVGA 550ti 2GB
COOLER: Corsair H80i
RAM: G.Skill Ripjaws X 4GB 1866MHz
SSD: Kingston HyperX SSD 120gb
HDD: Western Digital 1TB Black
CASE: Coolermaster Haf X
PSU: Corsair HX650

Thanks for the help!

To find out if you're stable run a program like prime95 or intel burn test for an extended period of time. Watch your temps!!

Knowing when to change multiplier, voltage, or both you will have to learn for yourself though reading and trial and error. With some more researching you will be able to know which settings need to be altered to stabilize an overclock.

I'd start with the mobo defaults and change nothing but the multiplier to 42. Start up CPU-Z, speedfan, or some other temperture monitoring program. Run Prime95 with large FFT for at least 30 minutes. If temps are below 70C and you don't crash, stop, go into BIOS, raise the multiplier by one (43), then repeat testing. Do this til you get too hot or crash, back down one on the multiplier, and run P95 for longer to make sure that's stable.

If you want to fine tune, you'll have to look for other guides.

You're nicer than I am J_E_D_70   , gets rather old rehashing easily findable information IMO.
