I am looking to upgrade the RAM memory in my desktop to some better ones though I don't know if there is a difference between the P5k chip set and the P55 chip set. the description on the ram says its compatible with P55 and I have a P5k ASUS MOBO.

Any advice is appreciated

P5K chip set is the LGA 775 socket that uses DDR2 memory and the P55 chip set is the LGA 1156 socket that uses DDR3 memory. The memory designed for P55, will not work on your motherboard.
