Can a high wattage smps damage my system?
my system is pretty old, the parts date back to 2006

Now I'm planning on getting a GTS 250. which requires a min. 450 watt smps. Can it damage my sytem?
Also will the 450 watt smps work well or will I have some problems.
because I don't have the money to buy a 500 watt smps along with it.

Well, having a high powered video card won't damage your system, but what MIGHT damage your system is having an under-powered Power supply. If you put a GTS 250 into your system and your PSU can't handle it, it might just not power on, or it could blow the PSU, which in turn could damage other parts of your system. Can't really tell you anything more than that without some details about what your system's hardware is. What PSU you have is one of the more important details we need:)

Hey,
I already bought the FSP Saga II 400 Watt. Around an year back, It's working like a charm!
I let my computer be on for days and it's cool, it works with same efficiency and everything. Great PSU.
