hi all! thanks for taking the time to help me out.

i have my build put together and i am very confident at every point except the GPU.

Currently my main monitor is a Soyo 32" HDTV, and their website says its resolution is 1366x768, which isn't really hard on gaming graphics correct?

I am torn between the 5770 and 5850 with the option to crossfire in the future. would the 5850 be overkill?

Thanks!!

Solution
The 5850 would definitely be overkill. Grab the 5770 and plan to Crossfire it if/when you buy a 1080p TV/monitor. This way you can save some money now and later when the prices drop without having to sacrifice performance at any point.

Unless you're planning on getting a 1080p TV/monitor soon. Then it would be better to get the 5850. Since the 5770 costs essentially 1/2 of the 5850, it would be better to leave the Crossfire option open.

Solution
1920 x 1200 (or 1080) - For DX11 games, you'll want at least an ATI 5850 or nVidia 470

1650 x 1050 or less - For DX11 games, a 5770 is fine.

For anything other than gaming and rendering the 5770 will do just fine and is more than you need in normal desktop apps, movies etc. at HD resolution.

thanks admiral. yea im going with the GIGABYTE GA-790XTA-UD4 so i can have that option open to me in the future.

i love having the large picture in front of me and haven't really thought about purchasing a new monitor for some time. i suppose the 5770 would be the best for the bang at the moment with the option to crossfire later on. thanks!

@jake
thanks again for your quick responses. i think i will go for the 5770...any particular unit i should be looking at since i don't mind spending a few extra bucks since i'm saving about 150$ :)
