Hi all :)

This is my first time using this site. Stumbled across this forum site doing an internet search. Thought I'd post my problem and see if some kind soul replies ;)

I haven't accessed the user accounts control panel for a while. I wanted to create another account but when I clicked on "create a new account" a blank window came up with nothing but the back, forward and home buttons showing up. I've tried clicking those buttons and re-loading user accounts but no luck. Also there is no timer glass showing to say it's not responding, there is just a blank white window with forward, back and home buttons at the top. Now I can't do anything with user accounts.

Very greatful for any help.

Monty.

Hello and welcome to Tom's Hardware Forums.

Sometimes there's a quick Registry fix for this one so try this first. Go from Start to Run and in the Open box, type regsvr32 jscript.dll then press Enter. Restart the system and see if that helped but if it didn't try doing the same with these two.
regsvr32 nusrmgr.cpl and regsvr32 /i mshtml.dll.

Hopefully one or the other will do the trick.

My computer automatically shut down and is not starting again. I have already checked the DC supply and it's ok. Please tell me what can be the problem.

Errrrr..... Excuse me? This is my thread which I posted. Please create your own thread by clicking ask the community and don't just post on mine, you may possibly divert the attention from me to you when it's me thats asking and got a problem. Yes you have another problem but some could interpret that your me and that I tried what the other user said to try and fix it and that he or she's borken my computer. I know that it shows you are a different user but still people may miss it and just assume that the other users afdvice failed when I haven't even tried it yet. Please do not post in my threads unless you are going to help with my problem. Thank You.

Hello Saga Lout, I tried your first regsitry fix and all it brought up was a notepad file (don't know if thats supposed to happen). I rebooted and the "control panel white window" problem is fixed! Don't know if it was that first registry fix or whether it just fixed itself (sometimes I'm lucky when problems go away by themselves) but it's fixed :)

Unfortunately there is still the problem of the shortcuts and start menu items not opening when double or single clicked, I have to right click, click properties and copy and paste the target into the run box, then the program or folder will run fine. Link to that other thread here: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/284492-35-shortcuts...

I tried your other 2 fixes and even re-tried the first fix doing what you said.. But now when I try them I get this error message: regsvr32 is not a valid win32 application.

Very greatful for further help or any other users help.

In the mean time I will try googling and trying stuff and see what works and what doesn't.

BTW, I found this website which might have the answer to my shortcuts and start menu items problem: http://summitlake.com/wp_1computers/?p=131

I have also done an online antivirus scan and it's removed quite a few threats: http://www.eset.com/us/online-scanner-popup/

And I'm also about to do a windows defender antivirus scan to.

I will also post a similar update to this on my other thread: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/284492-35-shortcuts...

The Notepad document flying apst is what should happen when a Registry tweak is under way so I'm sure that sorted out the white Control Panel form.

For the other issues, go to Doug Knox's website at http://www.dougknox.com and click on the Win XP Fixes link in the left hand pane, and then on the LNK File Association Fix, download and run it and that should sort the shortcut issue. If it doesn't, go back to the same page and find Doug's EXE file association fix. All his tweaks and fixes are trustworthy.

Thank You! Both issues are now solved:)

I still have some other computer issues and I will create new threads for those. I tried the LNK File Association fix and it sorted out the problem. So far I like this site. Very helpful.
