Hi all,
I have an Asus P5K-E motherboard and currently have 2 gigs of Crucial Ballistix PC2 6400 ram. I am about to get 4gb worth of G.SKILL PC2 8500 (seen here.. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168... ).

My question is this, will these 4 gigs of memory be overkill for my motherboard or will it work out to be fine? I need an opinion from the gurus here at Tom's.

Thanks everyone!

Does your board support PC 8500? If it does, so there'll be no problem. The 4 gigs is the max memory capacities.

"4 x DIMM, Max. 8 GB, DDR2 1066*/800/667 Non-ECC,Un-buffered Memory"

If 'adding' then NO, instead get another set of "2 gigs of Crucial Ballistix PC2 6400 ram"; mixing faster and slower RAM is a bad idea. At best a working configuration will run at the WORST of each Set; assuming it will work at all!

G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) F2-8500CL5D-4GBPK
1066 MHz 5-5-5-15 @ 2.0~2.1v

Crucial Ballistix 2GB (2 x 1GB) BL2KIT12864AA804 {assuming OP RAM}
800 MHz 4-4-4-12 @ 2.2v

Mixing:
800 MHz 4-4-4-12 @ 2.2v
1066 MHz 5-5-5-15 @ 2.0~2.1v {you'll need to find the 800 MHz CAS timings}
======================
800 MHz 5-5-5-15 @ 2.1~2.2v

Crucial RAM -> http://www.crucial.com/store/listparts.aspx?model=P5K-E
See BL2KIT25664AA80A ; otherwise please post the EXACT RAM you have now.
