To uninstall old drivers or just install over them

My thread title pretty much sums up my question. I know some people recommend Driver Sweeper but it ain't free anymore. I have been just installing new drivers over my old ones with no problem on my Nvidia pc, it's just that when I do this on my AMD pc that some flash games screw up and I have to do system restore and do it again.

Nvidia as well as AMD recommend overwriting afaik.

Which is why I'm confused.

I have never had an issue with overwriting my drivers.. It really doesn't make a difference. Though if you happen to have an install fail for whatever reason it is good practise to wipe them out and start fresh.
