Janky HDMI with ATI Mobility 2600 HD and LG 23" monitor

I can connect my LG W2340V to my Gateway M6864FX laptop with ATI 2600 HD card, and most of the time things work. However, intermittently I lose my display altogther and have to hard reboot the computer to even get my integral display back. If I try to launch World of Warcraft, for instance, it instantly duplicates the scenario above - lose all display and cannot restore until hard reboot. Is the culprit more likely my video card or monitor?

Have you updated your drivers recently? ATI may have newer updated HDMI drivers for that model. Just go to AMD.com and you'll see the Driver Download Section on the homepage.
