Hey there. This is my first time visiting this site for help [I found it useful]

I have a netbook but it ain't gonna perform satisfyingly in CPU-power-hungry applications, especially Flash and Java games like Runescape and Facebook games. So i'm considering a desktop. The specs are these:
Intel Pentium Dual-Core G6950 [3MB Cache, 2.8GHz, 2.5GT/s]
Kingston VRAM DDR2 2GB 1066MHz
WD 500GB SATA2 7,200rpm
Asus MS202D 20"
Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit
Creative X-Fi Titanium 64MB
LiteOn DVD 24x
Gigabyte G41
CM GX 550W
2x CM Neon case fan 3,000rpm
CM Geminii S 2,200rpm
CM Blue Ice Pro 4,500rpm
Artic RC RAM fan 2,000rpm
Which GPU should i choose?
A GT220 1GB DDR3 or a GTS250 1GB GDDR3? And will there be any bottleneckings?

  1. That would be a huge step up from a netbook in terms or performance.
However that G41 motherboard and socket 775 G6950 CPU are getting a bit dated.
Any options with Core i3 or Core i5 CPUs?
A GT220 is an entry level video card and should be adequate for the games you list.
For a gaming computer the GT 220 would be the bottleneck in performance, followed by the 2GB RAM.
Does that G41 motherboard have 4 RAM slots? or just 2?
  2. that G41 mainboard has yet to be confirmed, but i'm planning to switch it to an Asus board with PCI-E x16 2.1 and DDR3 slots. Besides, I have Left 4 Dead 2 and Need For Speed Most Wanted in mind. I wouldn't go for the i processors yet. Anything to suggest?
  3. For your information, that G6950 is a 32nm and LGA 1156 socket processor. It also comes with Intel HD Graphics integrated.
  4. And you want to pair it with a socket 775 motherboard? That won't work.
What is the Asus motherboard you're considering?
  5. I planned to paired it with the Asus P7H57D-V Evo and go for Kingston VRAM 1333MHz dual-channel 2GB
  6. It doesn't look promising that the Intel HD graphics would be adequate for 3D gaming like Left 4 Dead 2 or Need For Speed Most Wanted.

  7. that's my reason for seeking help here. I need suggestion of GPU for my desktop. A GTS 250 1GB GDDR3 or a GT220 1GB DDR3?
  8. A $200 motherboard and a $85 CPU. It seems like those prices should be reversed. $200 CPU (Core i5 750) and $85 motherboard.
  9. Here is where the GT 220 falls in performance for Left 4 Dead.
You'll want to consider the HD 5750 or HD 5770 along with the GTS 250
  10. oh, i see. But i will also be going extreme for gaming later on. Specs are like:
Intel Core i7-980X [12MB SmartCache, 3.33GHz, 6.4GT/s, HT, TB, VT-x, AES New Instructions]
    Kingston HyperX 2000MHz DDR3 8GB [4x2GB]
    MSI Fuzion Big Bang motherboard
    nVidia GeForce GTX 480
    ATi Radeon HD 5870
Creative Soundblaster X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty Pro
    CM V10
    CM Blue Ice Pro
    CM Realpower 1250W
    4x 120mmx120mm CM Sickleflow [inner]
    4x CM Excalibur [outer]
    Kingston HyperX fan
    2x LiteOn DVD-RW 24x
    3x WD CG 7,200rpm 1TB
    Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit
  11. Will my G6950 bottleneck a GTS 250?
