I lost my files on my wd passport

Hello, i lost my files on my WD Passport external Hard disk. and i dont know how to get it back.
and also i cant click the backup and retrieve button on WD smartware display.
please help, need my files back
PS: I use windows XP

You could try using Ashampoo HDD Control. It's free but you need to create an account to get a free licence. Once installed go to the data recovery tab and scan your drive. there is no guarantee that it will work but it is worth a shot. If it doesn't you could try taking it to a HDD recovery shop.
