Radeon HD4650 DDR2 or HD4550 DDR3

I'm going to upgrade my video capabilities in my Gateway SX2840 desktop. Its a mini-tower with a 220w power supply. I'm looking at the Sapphire Radeon HD4650 with 512MB of DDR2 memory vs the Sapphire Radeon HD 4550 with 512MB of DDR3 memory. I understand that the the test show the DDR3 memory cards are a huge improvement over the DDR2 mem. However, does the 128bit pipeline and the higher processing power of the HD4650 outweigh the benefits of the DDR3 HD4550 card? The HD4650 is also fan cooled which is important in a small small tower case. I need help deciding.

  1. Don't bother with the 4xxx series anylonger. Get the HD 5570, It performs slightly better than a 4670 and uses less power than a 4650 & is low profile, which is what you need. This is probably the best card you can get for that system since it's low profile and a small power supply.
