Pc requirements for use with hdmi cable

I have a problem with a HDMI cable I've just purchased - when I connect the cable from the graphics card (ATI Radeon 5670) to the monitor (Hannspree New York) and attempt to watch a DVD with Media center the frame rate is all choppy. Can anyone help me with this problem.

The picture quality with DVI cable works really well

Make sure the resolution and refresh rate are correct. Whatever your monitor res is 1920x1080 (maybe?) and 60Hz. I've used my HDMI cable to my TV on my 5870 and for some reason it wanted to use 30HZ instead of 60 and was all choppy.

The resolution is set at 1440x1050 which is not my monitors natural resolution, could this cause the problem that I'm having?

correct me if i am wrong, but i thought the 19'' screen has a max resolution of 1280 x C024!
