hello out There, I am starting a new build for my dad, so nothing as extravagant as I jest built, but still a nice simple build with one CPU block one 580 block one res one pump and a 360 rad to cool it all down. The rad will be in a fan shroud rad shroud fan configuration with the fans in a push/pull . I like the corsair SP fans so I will use them for this build. Let’s see it is a lan-li case AMD 1100T processor what else would you guys like to know?
Any suggestions?

Well I had to expect this, and I knew it was coming, I went online to get the parts for my buddy’s build and the shopping cart is at about $$$ for the hardware, when he flips out!,  so I told him that I would pay for half of it, if he could at least meet me half way on this, I will build it for him for free. So we continued shopping and he stopped me again at his cost this time of $$$$ stating please is that everything yet, and I replied yes it is.

you do not get much today for all you put into it.

Every skill set has a price - but for a friend you've known for a long time - there are certain corner you can cut :)  or rather the way you pointed it out to him...I think he'll man up and see your side after the build goes successfully.

SO how far are we regarding the Dell case?

March 11, 2013 2:15:24 AM

Well I got him looking for something a little better don't know what he will come back with, but almost anything would be better than that case. It is very hard to work with so I gave him some ideas and things to look for and what would be better always look for like the ability to disassemble all the sides and stuff like that

This is my own fault, i did say that a water cooling system could be put into anything to him, and he handed me that case!

ok so this is what we came up with, all of the hardware in the one case will go into or onto the other case!

I have new hardware for the first case

March 14, 2013 5:34:50 AM

ok so I have 2 X 240 rads but they are a little strange I am thinking that I will need to sandwich two fans between them to make this work than attach that build to the case side panel
ideas, thoughts, suggestions?

Ok so for this build on my buddy's case, I was thinking of doing it like this! I will start at the pump outlet with will go to the processor block then down to the video card block and out of the case through the bottom PCI slot port. Then around the case to the radiators attached to the side of the case, that I will have connected in parallel at this point, after coming back out of the radiators it will recombine to one line and go to the reservoir with I will also have attached to the side of the case, then out of the reservoir. It will go Around the case again and back in through the bottom PCI slot port to the inlet of the pump. so how does that sound so far?

my buddy gets the smaller case and the older hardware.
Any ideas on how to tackle this rad issue that i am haveing?

Yes it is I could make it easier for you and give you a list out if you would like?
a c 78 K Overclocking
March 14, 2013 2:12:49 PM

Definitely would like one! Tell you what how about you group your parts according to the clients. i.e:

Dad
------
parts

+

Pal
-----
parts

So I can have a better picture in my head about your lineups.
a b K Overclocking
March 14, 2013 2:26:48 PM

Ok so basically I am striping out all of the parts in my dad’s case and putting them into my buddy’s smaller case and all of the new hardware will be going into the larger case with is my dad’s.
Here is the kicker the piping on my dad’s case will be a little different again I will try something new   So I am going to loop the processor and video blocks in a parallel setup. Ok so this is what I have planned I will start with the pump it will be positioned right under the video block with the outlet going right into the bottom of the block then that line will continue to the inlet side of the processor block the outlet of the video block will connect to the outlet of the CPU block by way of a T block with a single line continuing out if the case into the radiator out of the radiator and back into the case into the reservoir out of the reservoir into the inlet of the pump.

does that help at all?

Parts for my dad’s system lets see here
XSPC raystorm, Monstra 360, norprene 3/8 5/8 tubing with fitting to match, corsair 120 SP fans, 655 pump, 250 multi-z tank, 580 EVGA block, gigabyte UD3 Mobo, 1100TCPU, 240G SSD, 1333 samsung memory.

Parts for my buddy’s case
Swifttech CPU block, 2 X 240mm rads, some norprene 3/8 ½ tubing with fittings to match, 120mm fans, 655 pump, 250 multi-z tank, 8800 Ultra block, Asus Mobo, 6000+AMD CPU, 500G WD HDD, 800Mhz OCZ memory.

March 18, 2013 8:28:16 PM

Ok so I sandwiched a couple of fans between the rads and bolted them together now I will attach that build to the side panel with some standoff's to try and improve the air flow around the rads. The reservoir will be attached to the same side panel to the rear of the case with the rads to the front of the case. Not a best case for the rads ability to cool, but space is limited and it’s easier this way, less fans needed, less fittings needed, so on and so on.(cost)

March 23, 2013 7:29:35 AM

Sorry I haven't posted before :)

I like how you're getting your dads rig wet by going with the raystorm, but You going pretty much what you had in your old rig right ? :)  Lot's of angled fittings though don't think its warranted.
a b K Overclocking
March 23, 2013 9:46:07 AM

It sucks but I have found it too be a lot easier to build with fittings, rather than trying to make do without, but yes there is maybe one or two of the fittings that I will not use on this build. With that said I would also rather have some extra than not enough, I am always building something. So it does not hurt to have one laying around it will not be there for long and then it will be another couple of parts that I have laying around.

Update on that rig of my dad's he gave me the go ahead to strip and paint the case. I will keep it simple again on this case, two colors, one inside color, and one color on the outside. I might paint the face a different color as well but we will see. I was thinking instead of black gray like mine, black dark blue what do you think?

My rant and rave wow I do not understand this desire to have the smallest and most thin radiator possible for what is most likely the most expensive piece of hardware in the house. I build race cars out of stock cars and if you do not mind there are a lot of similarities here. OK so I have a 240SX that at one time was a stock car from the dealer first I add the intake then the exhaust and the suspension. All of this would be the equivalent of buying a nice case designed for water cooling. Thin I upgraded the cams, pistons, and crankshaft. This would be like buying a nice processor, mother board, and memory. Then I upgraded the transmission and the rear end. That is like adding a nice video card to the system to round off its capability’s. Now for the fun part I had to cool all of that new hard ware in my car down, now do you think I went out looking for the smallest and thinnest radiator that I could find, to cool my car, NO!!!! I didn’t, in fact I got 3 radiators, and all of them are triple wide radiators, with real nice fans to match. Now you might be wondering why I have so many that is because I did not design the car to go real fast but to run at high RPM’s all the time(EX: going around corners really fast)and at that I did succeed, and it stays cool while doing so. I designed my computer to run at full load all the time so I need to cool it accordingly.

OK so I got the rad for my dad's build today and is this thing thick oh yea and it will cool the whole system without issue it's big enough to do that.

I like that tag, that is cool

yea I am doing something a little different with each of these build's to give some diversity around here with regards to loop configuration, I just like to get down and in to it and find the hart of a issue and rip it out. I have seen some pretty diverse builds but most are a standard serial loop.

April 19, 2013 7:17:26 PM

Well I won't be hooking the memory up to the loop since he will not be clocking this system but it is more so that he will have some components already when he decides to upgrade to a better Mobo and so on those blocks can go on any memory as long as it is double sided.

That will be one sweet rig.
a b K Overclocking
April 24, 2013 1:16:41 PM

Ok so I have my buddy's rig is piped I still have some wire management to deal with but nothing great.
This has been fun but man this thing weighs a ton without water so let know what you think?
I did the rads in parallel with each other on this one thought that it would improve the flow of the system since the rads are restrictive by design. the blocks on this rig are open blocks there is no pin or grove matrix inside of them so they have good flow by design because there is nothing inside of them restricting the flow through them, as a result this will be a high flow system.
suggestions? comments?

you can't see them but the inserts for the tubing are a must have for this style of fitting to work right for this application.

I'll take a pic of one for you if you would like?
