SC2 Build, Suggestions/Comments

I've been working on this build for the last few months and finally have it all put together and up and running.

I will primarily be using it for Starcraft II, any comments, suggestions, or "I would have done this instead of this" would be appreciated. I wanted a high end, but not top of the line system at the best price possible.

CPU : Intel Core i5-750 Lynnfield 2.66GHz LGA 1156 95W Quad-Core Processor Model BX80605I5750 - $189.99

Mobo: ASUS P7P55D PRO LGA 1156 Intel P55 ATX Intel Motherboard - $159.99

Graphics cards: 2 x DIAMOND 4770PE5512 Radeon HD 4770 512MB 128-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16(In crossfire at x8 x8 due to mobo not sure if it would have been worth the extra money to get a x16 x16 mobo, from what i read i didn't think it was) - $62 each

HD: 2 x SAMSUNG Spinpoint F3 HD103SJ 1TB
7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5 (In Raid 0 Array) - $75 each (Included a thermal take external docking station)

RAM: G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL7D-2GBRH - $139.99

Optical Drive
: Sony Optiarc AD-7240S-0B SATA 24X DVD/CD burner - $21.99

Power Supply: PC Power and Cooling S75QB Silencer 750W - $69.99

Case: Antec Three Hundred Gaming Case - $54.95

OS: Win7 Pro 64bit

I used 3DMark06 to benchmark it (Any other recommendations for benchmarking?):
3DMark Score 17439 3DMarks
SM 2.0 Score 6791
SM 3.0 Score 8814
CPU Score 4358

Total cost: ~$760 with tax and shipping (I used mail in rebates and bing cashback on many of the items to keep the price as low as possible)

  1. Bryan, you did well! Wise of you to use rebates, cash back, etc. to reduce costs. Hope you have Win 7 64-bit OS

Thanks, I am running win7 pro 64bit. I have updated that in the post.
  3. Include these build specs in your Member Configuration - you may check mine in case you need some type of format.
By doing so, members can refer to your build specs in replies to future posts.
  4. Can find i7 860 at microcenter if you have one local for 200.00. Hyperthreading is WIN.

Otherwise not bad..I am also not a big fan of dual video cards.

    NewEGG processor prices<Microcenter

If u can make the drive.
  5. right now (in beta) SC2 doesn't like crossfired cards.

The game will run but there will be graphics bugs making it unplayable 30% of the time.

The only way to play it right now with xfire is to disable all but 1 graphic card.

Will have to wait on AMD to bring out new drivers for the game.

I'd suggest dropping your 4770's and picking up 1 5770.
  6. Oh just noticed. I would have gone with 4gb of memory. 2gb of memory is fail on a new pc running a 64 os.
