Best performance

Solution
Raid-0+1 will give you the best read/write performance but has a higher storage overhead than Raid-5

The reason for this is that Raid 5 involves computing and writing parity checksums on every write and computing and comparing the parity checksum on every read

RAID10 is very good for database, small files read/write, it costs 50% over head

It is OK to use SW raid, but HW still better

RAID5 is very good for BIG files HD Video Editing, Photo shop. Stay away from SW raid. This must use HW controller.

For R/W about 250MB/s then use the low cost SPM394 - driver less
For R/W about 450MB/s then use the low cost 8x ports HP card - Hardware assisted
For R/W about 650MB/s then use the 8x ports HW raid from ARECA, ADAPTEC, HPT PCIe V1.0
For R/W about 850MB/s then use the 8x ports HW raid from ARECA, ADAPTEC, HPT PCIe V2.0
For R/W about 1250MB/s then use the 16x ports HW raid from ARECA, ADAPTEC, HPT PCIe V2.0
