Capture Video and Convert for iPhone Playback

Is there a way to take video from my Dish Network VIP722 DVR into my computer and convert into H.264 for playback on my iPhone?

What kind of capture card do I need?

Another forum suggestion led me to a AVerMedia AVerTV HD DVR. But at that point I was thinking I wanted to capture HD quality video. I realize now that that is not going to happen reliably. Is there a better way to do this?

I don't know about capturing video/tv, but I use Handbrake to convert media into an iPhone friendly format. And it's free!

I recommend to you iphone video converter. It can capture video while converting and convert other video formats to iphone h.264 format.

I have been trying to get my DVR to my computer for a while, with no luck.

For video on my computer, I recommend the airvideo app...It allows you to remotely access your video's on your computer from your iphone (or ipad)...It is amazing and saves much needed HD space on your device.

You can also remotely access the video from you dvr directly to your iphone using Slingbox. I haven't bought this yet, but I plan to once the ipad app comes out. I would rather just copy the files from my dvr to my computer, but just haven't found the answer yet. I know Tivo does this, but too pricey.
