In a bit of a bind here with my computer.
My computer has been running slow these past few months, so I decided to reformat it. As soon as I clicked the reformat now button, it asked me to please insert disk 1, which was already in the DVD drive. After a couple of tries with inserting and cleaning the disk, the computer finally read disk 1. During this time I noticed that only sometimes would the DVD drive start spinning up. Sometimes it just plain out refuses to start up if there's a disk inside of it and freezes up the computer completely. I have also changed the boot order to run the CD but no luck.
I have the recovery disks 1-5 but when I put in disk 2, no matter how many times I reinsert it into the DVD drive, it will not read at all, until I force restart the computer and the recovery process starts back up from disk 2 and reads it from there.
Now I would continue to do this (even though I know this isn't the right way to do it) but disks 3,4, and 5 will not read at all. I tried running up these disks from another computer and they boot just fine except for disk 5 which has one file that it does not read.
I have tried booting from a USB drive to see if the computer will read it but the computer does the same things it did with the disks. I tried making backup copies of the disks which did not work.
I looked into the HP website about making a new set of recovery disks to see if they are the problem, but I can't boot the recovery disk creator from the computer because it will not let me start up. I wanted to do it from my Windows 7 but I don't know how to go about that.
As a last resort solution I wanted to see if anyone had the recovery disks iso. files that I need to see if it'll boot from a USB drive. It could be that the DVD drive is failing.
