Difference between core 2 duo and i5

Hello,
i'm reddy and i need to know the main difference between core 2 duo and i5 processors.
actually i am planning for a macbook pro 13" . its giving me a core 2 duo processor while 15" gives a i5 processor , both the processor speeds are 2.4Ghz

Clock per clock, the i5 is better than the C2Duo. The i5 is also multithreaded and 4 threads will give you an even bigger advantage over the C2Duos 2 threads in programs that use them, like Photoshop. In addition, the i5 has turbo boost which will basically overclock itself for heavier work loads.
