Dual Channel Memory..Using 2 different sets with different timings?

I had 8gb of ram (4 x 2gb sticks). 1 stick recently went bad. I can only buy this ram in pairs, so I see no reason to buy 2 sticks when I don't need it.

Instead I would prefer to buy 8gb (2 x 4gb). Problem is this ram has different timings.

Will there be any negatives to having each set of ram run on different timings?

I know my BIOS allows me to set each dual channel setup with different timings...

Actually, you will likely have to run all the RAM at the settings of the lesser RAM: the higher latencies of the two sets and the lower voltage of the two sets. Try to get RAM that matches your existing speed (MHz).
