More about official nvidia 480gtx reviews discussion guru3d update
  1. it will be very soon, in some games we can see 20-30% better performance than 5870
  2. you have two 5870 in cf you really dont need anything better than that
  3. only 1 now, im giving 1 away in the draw
  4. Apparently, from what I have read, the reviews are coming out late at night, about 8:00-10:00, can't wait.

If nothing else, and if the GTX 480 truly sucks, it sure does have a pretty cooler.

    Heres hoping for a sub $300 5850!!!!

Here's my hoping for a free HD 5870 from L1qu1d
    or a $260-$280 HD 5850...
  7. No reviews at anand, etc as of 5:00 PM Eastern Time.
  8. I woke up this morning expecting reviews. Why no review!!! ahhhh *runs around screaming obscenities*
  9. the guru3d site is VEEEERY SLOW, probably many ppl watching there :D
  10. They reviewed both the 470 and 480
  11. damn its so slow, sometimes it says "connection timed out" lol, i hope tom's get their review up soon :)
  12. Tech[owerup has a GTX 480 review and an awesome PCIe scaling review:

    http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews [...] 480_Fermi/

    http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews [...] ng/24.html

    7% performance lose with PCIe x4 2.0!

    Also anandtech:

  13. Seems like a good card, drivers should really push this card further
  14. Quote:
Starting from the bottom up, we would say the least relevant video card is the GeForce GTX 470. In all our gameplay testing today, not once did the GeForce GTX 470 provide a superior gameplay experience compared to the Radeon HD 5850, even in Metro 2033. In fact, performance was very close between both video cards, and in some cases the Radeon HD 5850 proved to provide faster framerates. Looking strictly at performance, these video cards are equal.
  15. I don't have high hopes for the drivers, they have had plenty of time already to deal with drivers and nVidia release drivers are always better than ATI release drivers.

The only thing I can tell is that the Hexus benchmarks were B.S. Not sure how I feel about these cards.

  18. Here is a review, got through the sci/tech portal of google news
    http://www.neoseeker.com/Articles/Hardware/Reviews/gtx480launch/
  19. Sorry, doesn't matter anyway as it was pulled within a minute.
  20. The Techpowerup review shows the 480 beating the 5870 in 2033 by quite a bit.
    From this single review I have gathered that;
    1. Fermi is going to be quite a future-proof card
    2. It's going to be hot (good for those sub-0* winters)
    3. And at least your not running a 4870x2

    On to the next...
  21. We're lucky to have a sub-10*C winter
  22. Moving where you are :ouch: We're lucky to see +1* in January here.
  23. Well, we get 40*+ weather here. Your skin almost starts pealing :D
  24. Radeon 5970 may be a dual-chip card but:

    5970 runs cooler
    5970 is more silent
5970 has a lower power consumption
    5970 is faster than GTX480

    GTX480=epic fail
  25. Got to agree mafi.

Where are all the nvidia fanboys who said the 480 shouldn't be compared to the 5970? Well it's closer to the 5970 than it is the 5870...too bad it's all the bad stuff it's closer at. :D
  26. Still graving this, sellin the xfx 5870 and grabbin a 5970 for my secondary
  27. Like heavy tessellation, something that is DX11's 'huge deal'. Not promoting heat and upping your electric bill by 100%, but Fermi is beating the competition where DX11 matters.

Look at the upside - remember that easy bake oven you had when you was a kid? Well now you can play games faster than the competition and bake brownies. Who in the hell doesn't like brownies?

    ...and games.
  28. I don't pay electric, it's included haha
  29. Yeah the GTX 480 isn't a bad card, but if I were you L1qu1d I'd go with the 5970 if you are set on the best, because it is.
  30. Noisy fan, even on light 3D loads = don't want

    Radeon wins.
  31. Now lets see ATI release what they've had six months to design, maybe a 5890? I'm sure this will happen soon and it won't take much to beat nVidia's poor lead in performance.

For the GTX480 to suit its 6 month wait it would have to be competing with the 5970 not the 5870. No thank you nVidia.
  32. Guys we have many threads about GTX 480/470 reviews and discussions, since one of them is stickied then let's post in that topic:
