Hi there!

I wanna buy a workstation for desktop publishing and 3D-work. So, I am asking myself which CPU should I take?

i7 930: 2,8 Ghz & 8 MB Cache

Xeon E5620: 2,4 Ghz & 12 MB Cache

The i7 hast more speed but the Xeon has 50 % more Cache. What would you say? Which CPU is better for Rendering and DTP?

So, you think 16 % more Ghz would be greater than 50 % more Cache ? ... why? I want to understandt. :)

The 16% more GHz difference can be upscaled to 50% easily.. Cache count doesn't matter much over the sheer speed especially when it comes to rendering.. Moreover, Xeons are server domain processors designed to run in multi CPU environment and thus are provided with two or more QPI links.. The below link will give you an idea of the comparative analysis in stock conditions..

If you can setup for a dual processor rig wherein you buy one now and the other later, xeon is the (and the only) way to go..
