How about it? Does anybody want the series to go on, or stop in it's
tracks and enjoy more FMs?

Is it possible to go on? I thought the company had no plans of ever
doing more with it.
I would like to see it go on, but as long as T2 FM's are continuing to
be made, I don't need T4 right now.
They should bring back the rope arrows and do away with that faction
stuff and just get back to basic thievery.

I would like to see a T4 but didn't Ion Storm close it's doors. One would
have to wonder which developer would pick up the slack if a decision is made
to go ahead with a sequel.

I'm probably in the minority, but I would definitely like to see a Thief 4,
and I don't see any real problems with it involving Garrett, either. I've
said it so many times before that I think the world of Thief has such a rich
background that it holds countless of stories that could yet be told. I'd
also be interested in the future of Garrett. The ending of Thief: Deadly
Shadows is a closure of one part of Garrett's life, but from where we left
off, I see many interesting possibilities for further adventures.

Ion Storm has closed its doors, and Eidos will probably be bought by some
other company, but the Thief brand hasn't gone anywhere. It will be the
property of the new owners. Thief is a strong brand still, and it would be
foolish not to utilize it. I'm almost certain that there will be a new
Thief. When, and developed by which studio is where -- in Fletch's words --
we're kind of in a grey area (charcoal).

I'm surprised no one's mentioned the former Looking Glass designers.
For me, Thief 4 will be worth it only if most of them are involved.
Just because the rights to publish Thief will still be around
post-Eidos doesn't guarantee this at all.

I guess it will differ from player to player.

If you think about it, doing yet another sequel would probably only succeed
in opening new possibilites for future games after that. I think Thief 3
tied up Thief as we know it.

If, however, they were considering moving off in a new direction, then I
believe that would be possible. We all know that each Thief has been set in
a new age. What if Garrett's new "trainee" were to be the main focus, and
the new technology had arrived. Just for example, they could involve such
things as body modifications (yeah i know that moving a little into deus ex,
but its only an example). But, even with that, imagine the possibilites a
thief game could have if it included body upgrades.

I guess it all depends how far the makers (whoever they would be), the
producers (whoever they would be) and the players (we all know who they
would be) would like to take the game, and to what level of realism. But, we
could just end up with another Splinter Cell in our hands.

IMHO, they should stop. Unless they could pull something spectacular out of
their hats. From Thief 2, there was no way to go but down a little :)

Thats my 2 pence.

There is a certain art in letting enough be enough. Some
seem to know it -- Bill Watterson, for instance, had the
sense in ending Calvin and Hobbes before it turned into
a second Dennis the Menace.

The Thief saga was closed in T3 -- although I don't think
it was finished quite as well as I would like to have seen.
Prolonging that particular story will need considerable artificial
respiration and will probably be little but going over the
ground we already know. Thief meets Dracula?

There are other thief-like stories to tell, though, and I
am sure they can be told quite well withough having Garrett
breathing down the neco of either the player or the mission designer.
I only wish there was a way for independent innovation.

It may take a decade, but I'd like to see another Garrett Thief game too.
Instead of one that builds on Thief 3, I'd rather just have one like Thief
2 but with nicer graphics. I expect there will be another game eventually
though.

The T2X is just around the corner, so you're in luck!

Yeah, I hope they hurry. I'm getting antsy without new missions to play
this week.

I'd argue that there's a good case for a Thief 4.

T3 gave a reasonable ending to the trilogy, but Garrett is such
a fantastic character that it seems a shame not to use him to tell
some amazing stories.
Gamewise, it'll take a developer with strong convictions to produce
a "true" Thief game. (ie Not some halfway house between a RPG and a FPS)
I think this is what let T3 down. I suppose sales figures are everything,
but you see new games released almost every week that you know no-one
will buy.
I think that a software company would hopefully see that a game with
an emphasis on "stealth and accuracy" would find a core of gaming
support, and hopefully if the game's good enough, crossover appeal.

Multiple ways through a level.
Competant AI
Able to "ghost" if wanted.
Easy to use editor
Oh...and er...rope arrows.

To me if they get that right, the rest is just bells and whistles.
How hard can it be?

I agree. I watched the trailer for it again. Any idea on when it will

We're talking about a few weeks here, tops. What the devs have said on the
TTLG forums, it's really a matter of just one or two weeks. The master copy
has been shipped for final 'torture testing', it's been beta-tested to
death, so no major problems should arise -- we're not talking about months
here. My guess is two to three weeks. I trust the devs, I don't think
they're lying to us. Bullshitting, maybe -- but not lying.

Yah, I agree with the rope arrows and multiple ways through a level. Maybe
even multiple endings.

Anyway, manky thanks to all that replied.

P.S.
Sorry for the late reply. Im' very bussy, working on a T2 Mission Set
"The Rebellion of the Builder". :-}
