Hello Family,

I've been lurking for a long time and decided to ask my question.

APPROXIMATE PURCHASE DATE: Either this weekend or next weekend
BUDGET RANGE: $1000 After Rebates

SYSTEM USAGE FROM MOST TO LEAST IMPORTANT: Web Design (Heavy Photoshop, Illustrator), web/standalone app developer (C, C++, C#, Ruby, PHP, etc..)

PARTS NOT REQUIRED: keyboard, mouse, monitor, speakers, OS

PREFERRED WEBSITE(S) FOR PARTS: newegg.com, amazon.com, or any other reputable site

PARTS PREFERENCES: no preference

OVERCLOCKING: Maybe
SLI OR CROSSFIRE: Maybe

MONITOR RESOLUTION: 1920x1080 (Please see comment)

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS: My plan is to use my 40" Samsung LCD TV as the main monitor along with my two LG 23" monitors vertically mounted on each side. This helps with the development process a great deal.

My question is, does it make sense to build one or buy something like Gateway DX4831-07 ( http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/ite... ) and throw one 5770 on it?

I appreciate your response. Thanks.

I would just build the whole thing yourself. You'll save a lot and get exactly what you need.

Here's what I would build:

CPU/RAM: i7-930 and G.Skill Pi 3x2 GB 1600 mhz CAS Latency 7 $465
Mobo: Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R $210
HDD: Seagate 7200.12 500 GB $55
PSU: Antec Earthwatts 650W $80
Case/Optical: Coolermaster 690 and cheap SATA DVD burner $82 after rebate
GPU: HD 4850 $80 after rebate
HSF: Coolermaster Hyper 212 Plus $35 (with free card reader)

Total: $1,007

There are some issues I have with that build. First, the 5770 is completely unnecessary for a non-gaming build. Second, I would try as hard as possible to get an i7 in the build. An i7 is a lot better for Photoshop and other produtivity uses. Third, while a nice case, the Antec 300 is fairly expensive for your uses. Fourth, that RAM is incredibly expensive. I can think of better sticks at almost half the cost.

The build I posted would still be better for your uses.

Hello MadAdmiral, others...

I was not able to build rig as originally planned... but now I am. Is there any adjustment I should make for MadAdmiral's recommendation?

Also, I'm planning to use my 40" Samsung LCD TV as the main monitor mounted on a wall. Does anyone have any experience using LCD TVs as monitor? How far do you sit from it? Should I just buy two 25" and use? Should I or not mount it on the wall? etc.. please suggest
