Logon in Safe Mode (immediately after the BIOS post, press F8 and hold) from the list of logon options that appears on the screen, select Safe Mode... after logging on go to a My Computer icon and click with the right mouse key, next select Manage... next click on Device Manager, go to Audio, Video and Game Devices, right click on the Audio device*, and select Properties... next select Driver tab, and click on Go back to Previous Driver.. and Restart the computer normally.

*A quicker way is from the right click on the Audio Device, select Uninstall driver and restart the computer.

If the driver is actually what caused the problem, your computer should boot right up and the Plug and Play service will auto-install the previous working driver
