Hey guys, first off i dont know if this is the right section for the following but i apologize if it isnt.

I just built my new rig, first time building a comp, and i'd like to make sure my computer is running as it should, so any help would be appreciated.

Specs are as follows:

I7-930 cooled with Corsair h50 water cooler
Asus p6x58d premium mobo
Asus hd 5870
CORSAIR DOMINATOR 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600(PC3 12800) Triple Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model TR3X6G1600C8D
thermaltake 850W
Corsair 800D case

My first question is in regards to my EATX12V power connector. My thermaltake power supply came with 1 8-pin EATX12V power cable, but due to the fact that the 800D case is a mammoth of a case, it could not reach the top of my mobo where the connector is located, so i used an EATX12V 4-pin cable. I've read online that i7's usually require an 8-pin. Is this true? Is it only true if i want to overclock?(which i do)

Now on to temps.
Here are my current temps, stock speeds at idle, lemme know if it looks about right, thanks.

I ran a Core Damage burn test for 30 minutes and the temps on all cores did not exceed 64C. Can run more tests if needed for definite answers.

Now here are the tabs from CPU-Z, if someone can go over it(especially the ram areas) since im not too good with these numbers and really dont know if they are working as they should it would be real great.

Last question, I ran out of places to plug in my fans power...even though i only have like 4-5 fans in there counting the 2 spots being used for the h50. Is there anything i can do because i want to add an additional 4 fans so i can put my h50 in push/pull setup since it doesnt have that yet and also so i can increase the airflow.

Thanks again guys and i apologize if this was not posted in the right area.

You have the plague?? Well... that explains it but lucky for me I'm up-to-date on my shots :D

Your PSU:
Lets first address your PSU issue. You should be running the 8-pin EATX connector to your motherboard. If the cable can't reach, you need to purchase an extension like 1ST PC CORP. 12" 8-pin EPS extension cable Model CB-8M-8F. This will get your system running with the right power, plus you won't have to be worried about if you overclock or not.

Your CPU Temps:

For idle and the H50, they look a little high (safe but a little higher than I would expect). What is your ambient temp and did you apply Arctic Silver 5, that has a good "burn in time"...

What is your ambient temp and did you apply Arctic Silver 5, that has a good "burn in time", which means your temps should drop during that process. If your ambient temps are high, that will result in higher temps, which means your system is running on par.

I recommend running Prime95's Blend test for at least one to two hours to get a solid temperature at full load. If your temps stay at the low 60's or lower, you are okay. If you start getting into the 70's, than your cooler application might want to be looked at to make sure it is fully seated (secured) and the right amount of thermal compound was used.

Your CPU-Z Screens:

You are not running at the correct speeds for your RAM. You need to adjust your DRAM Voltage to 1.65V in your BIOS to have the XMP kick your RAM into DDR3 1600. Right now you are running DDR3 1066 (roughly). If your XMP doesn't kick-in, you'll manually set your speeds to DDR3 1600 in your BIOS.

I hope this has helped out a little (or spear other people to provide feedback) and I've noticed I'm starting to feel :heink: , so I think your plague is getting to me after all :kaola:

Tecmo, you are awesome! Couple more short questions.

Is me using the 4-pin right now damaging my computer and should i stop using it till i get the cable?

And those temps wernt at full idle..it was with about 5 pages of mozilla, aim, League of legends(video game like dota, nothing crazy) and paint and stuff to take those screenshots. Also...i have the warmest room in my house, and i live in socal so it can get pretty hot in here. Right now in the morning, its cold...my 800d case is freezing to touch and my highest core is at 32C while the other 3 are at 27C. I also do not have my h50 set in push/pull...and i really dont have an exhaust in my comp yet. I did not use any arctic silver or anything...just used what the h50 had on it already.

Can i set my DRAM voltage to what it needs to be without the 8-pin connector?

thanks again tecmo!

Thanks for the best answer nod... it made me feel better, so I'm no longer sick :D

You been using your PC just fine, so you don't need to shut it down waiting on the 8-pin connector.

Those temps (32C / 27C) look more along the lines of what I would expect. Being the hots room (highest ambient temp) will raise your temps... So everything looks goo to me!

I would wait to adjust your DRAM voltage until you get the 8-pin connector. Everything is running fine now, so just hold off until you get everything hooked up before adding additional voltage. It shouldn't make a difference but why risk the slight possibility.

Those temps are just fine!! You look to be good to go on your temps!!
