i hav an Sparkle 8500GT Passive and it is currently running at 60 degrees (celcius) or 140 degrees (farenheight) idle, it manages to reach about 70-80 degrees under load, is this too much? as it used to idle at 48 degrees (celcius) and never reached 60 degrees (celcius) under load.
thanks

Have you cleaned the heat sink? By the temperature increasing points to dust and lint buildup.

im pretty sure that there is no dust in the heatsinks, i just checked, also 8500GT is a very low end card (shoulda got 7900GT coz it's faster and costs less......) so it shouldn't produce this much heat right? also im sure that it's not a faulty censer coz i touched the end of the fins of the heatsinks and it is actually warm. so is this normal or will it actually get fried?

Most nvidia gpu's have a max temp of 105C you are still well under neath that.

I had an 8500GT and replaced it with a 5570. My temps were the same as yours. It idles at 59-60C and on load reaches 73-75C. Thats after I removed and cleaned the heatsink then reapplying thermal paste.

Its normal.
