Does it matter how you hold the ram memory?

I am told to only hold the ram by its side ends. To NOT touch the chips or any connectors. Why and what do you say

As long as you're not shuffling your nylon socks over a carpet you can touch the thing anyway you want.

Static is the only problem, so if you're grounded and discharged you'll be fine. Obviously don't go pawing the DIMMs unnecessarily, but it's not as fragile as you've been led to believe.

I don't touch the actual connectors though in case you get skin oils or dirt on them which will mess up the connection and possibly damage the socket.
