.Because of my retro-gaming habit , plus some software I own ,

_ I would like to buy the very last Hardware to support Windows XP and
use it as long as possible.

Something like an "XP" PC x 4 time , more or less ...
(4 cpu + 6 motherboard + 4 memory+ 6 gpu+ 6 psu ...)

_ I like silent PC and the 2700K looks amazingly attractive to me :
it is cold under Over Clocking too... the exact opposite of 3770k
in fact.

I would like to buy some good Intel hardware , no over-heating
and reliable function that bring something usefull ...

So -question- Should I buy the 2700k solution or wait until the very last
PC to support windows XP , sometime around the year 2014 , it should be
a Haswell or Broadwell platform ?

:non:

I use Windows XP for old software ( "retro-gaming" -> old game )

most of them are "windows XP" or "windows98" compatible only ...

:hello:

I don't need advice about cpu , gpu or the best O.S. ...

I am looking for information about the last socket to be

"windowsXP" compatible...It should be sometime around 2014 ?

The day Microsoft stops supporting Windows XP , there will be no more

driver and no more hardware to support this O.S. right ?

So -question- is when ?

It not socket that matters. It's chipsets. If AMD keeps the 990FX going for 5 more years, then socket AM5+ or whatever they come up with will work with xp. If intel uses haswell's socket for 5 more years, the same would be true. Not to mention that chip manufacturers might write drivers even after 2014.

It's fair to say that as of today, Haswell Is the last cpu we know with fair degree of certainty will be XP compatible. But who knows how it will actually unfold.

Haswell cpus will turn into Broadwells' , the two Chipset (? z88 and ... ?)
should be related ( as z68 and z77 are) by their socket (1150).

As for Amd , they are so in late... that 2 or 3 years will not turn their cpu into some 2700k...

Anyway , "who knows how it will actually unfold."

The 3770k is ugly to me , Haswell will (probably) be soldered to the Integrated Heat Spreader ( no more glue and thermal paste like the 3770k s' I.H.S) , then , intel will explain to us that those "new" cpus are superior...but still , overheating as soon as you
add voltage... sooo , all in all , the 2700k may be a good solution : easy to keep from
over heating and very powerfull , a little less than has-broad-well but still good enough for windows Xp games ?
