I want to buy myself an i7 gaming rig that will last, because I dont know when i will be able to upgrade again.
My budget stands at around 1500 pounds and I'm leaning towards the asus Rampage 3 extreme motherboard with an i7 920/960? The radeon hd 5870 seems to be great value for money as I will only be able to get 1 gpu. RAM is also an issue that I'm not very sure about, so any input would be greatly appreciated. Also want to get a reasonably sized ssd for running programs. ADVICE IS WHAT I NEED :D

For 1500 you'd be better off going for an X6 AMD build. You'd have like £600 extra to get yourself better graphics and honestly.. you wont see much of a performance drop over an i7. I know many don't like AMD, but performance for money.. they have beaten intel for years.

Ok, say I wanna be stubborn and set on the whole i7 thing, I would like to know the most sensible build that I could go for that includes the hd 5870(i dont need eyfinity though, but the card is just awesome) .Gonna go for the 6gig trichannel ocz platinum ram. mmm. The space, like i said, is gonna be a smallish ssd and a terabyte for extra space. The budget is reasonably flexible, i think around 1700 max. I'm also unsure about cooling, if and what? good point about amd though, alas, just too set on an i7. Thanks for the input.

Dude, at that budget, you could get twin 5870s or a single 5970 & still have some cash to spare for future upgrades.
Intel i7-930
ASUS Rampage III Extreme

2 X Radeon HD 5870 or 1 X 5970

Antec 900
Corsair 750 TX
