My wireless connection is not working

Hello,i just purchased a acer netpad to do my work at home but this machine will not connect wirelessly only when connected to the router directly.Called my cable company and they say it is not their problem and ACER computers also say the adapter is working well! Who shd i talk to now.This is a windows 7 ad by the way my babysitter has agateway and it will not connect too
