EDIT: So I just got a call from my friend apparently he only wants one computer now, for $500-$700 so below it is edited to reflect that. Thank you in advance for any advice or input.

APPROXIMATE PURCHASE DATE: Tomorrow, hopefully. Target range, as cheap as possible .$500-$700

SYSTEM USAGE FROM MOST TO LEAST IMPORTANT: to make a reliable work computer to be used at the counter of a retail location. So a lot of web browsing, inventory, ringing up sales, that sorta thing.... so multi tasking is important. However he wants it to be really fast and as future proof as possible.

PARTS NOT REQUIRED: Operating system not needed. However monitor, keyboard, mouse WILL be needed.

PREFERRED WEBSITE(S) FOR PARTS: newegg.com,

PARTS PREFERENCES: AMD for sure, not sure about triple or quad core though.

OVERCLOCKING: Yes, I will overclock the CPU moderateley to remain stable.

MONITOR RESOLUTION: Honestly I'm not sure how big, he plays a lot of online poker too, so probably a decent widescreen 22 or 24 inch maybe. Open to suggestions.

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS: ATX case fine, I guess I just don't know what I should be wary of and that is why I very much appreciate your input.
You think I should up it to 4GB of ram?

Doesn't seem bad to me. Two things I don't like are the MSI board, just always had better luck with Gigabyte and Biostar, personal preference I guess. Heard a lot of good about Asus as well. But also, instead of a single 1 TB drive, you may consider 2 500 gb drives. That way his OS can run on one drive, store all the data on the other drive. That way if you ever have a system crash, the data is all on the second drive(unless it fails). But you could safely blow away the C: drive and not worry about losing data if you can get him into a regular backup plan. Also don't forget to include costs of antivirus/security software since it will be a business pc.

Unless I missed it, you have no video card or onboard video on the Motherboard.

Try something like: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128407

And to be perfectly honest, I know you're trying to future proof this, but what you have is kinda overkill.

1 TB for web surfing, OS and a simple register program and maybe Excel? Thats total overkill.

Quad core? I'd get a dual core, maybe an Athlon IIx3 435

Even the RAM is overkill but it's inexpensive so it doesn't hurt much

I didnt see a computer case. Kinda too weary to look right now.
