My Intel Core 2 Quad Q9450 @ 2.66GHz on Asus P5QC Motherboard, 2046MB RAM is a Quad core.
It shows since first installation 3 CPU in the DXDiag and Task Manager. Running echo %NUMBER_OF_PROCESSORS% returns 3 as well.

In device manager it does correctly shows all 4 instances of "Intel(R) Core2(TM) Quad CPU Q9450 @ 2.66Ghz" !!

Running WinXP SP3 (32-bit).

Is that normal or is there something wrong?
Any tip?

Thanks for your wise answer !

Go to MsConfig by going to Run type in MsConfig and press enter this will open up the config window then go to boot tab click advanced options then check the processors box and make sure it is set to 4 then reboot.

are you counting "CPU 0" as a one? for you quad it should list. 0, 1, 2, 3

Thank you for your fast answer.
When I go to advanced options of Msconfig, I can check the box Numproc, but then I can choose between 1, 2 or 3.
It doesnt list 0(!) or 4.

Then it looks that your problem is the motherboard. I checked the support list and it says you need bios 0408.

To check to see what bios you can use a simple utility called CPU-Z this will also tell you some CPU and RAM information too.

www.cpuid.com

Download and run it then under mainboard tab you will see the bios info under it see what version you are running since you have been having this problem since day 1 then this is probably the case. If its not 0408 go to ASUS website and update the bios.

Thank you for your answer Saaiello.

Unfortunately no better results after updating a very old BIOS to latest (2103) for my Asus P5QC.

I still get 3 processors and not 4 showing with CPU-Z (nice tool by the way), dxdiag or echo.

Well heres the thing after you did that update you might have to reinstall windows or check that advanced boot in MsConfig.

I see. After checking the advanced boot in MSconfig with no more options than before, I guess I will need to reinstall windows (and pray?)
