A PCI Express question

How much is the difference in performance if a PCI Express 2.0 card is attached to a PCI Express 1 or PCI Express 2.0 supported motherboard?(in approx percentage)

  1. Will depend on the card. A PCIe 2 9500GT should show no difference at all. It can't fill the bandwidth allowed under PCIe 1, so the extra bandwidth that PCIe 2 provides isn't needed. You also need to take the game/settings into account. If your playing a simple game, or a low resolution, the same applies.
  2. I have a HD4870 1GB DDR5 and my current resolution is 1440*900 but it may grow up in a near future.
  3. At that res everything would be fine.
  4. You know Toms did a test on this - did you try looking for it?
  5. techpowerup did a pcie scaling test with the new 480, and going from 2.0 x16 to 2.0 x8 (=1.0 x16) resulted in a whopping 2% drop.....
