Is OCZ Vertex 3 reliable?

I'm looking to upgrade my aging Maxtor PATA drive. From both reviews and benchmarks, the Vertex 3 seems a powerful option with a low price tag. But in many reviews, I've heard things about the drives dying quickly, not showing up on BIOS, the controller failing. OCZ apparently released a bunch of firmware updates as a response. So, as of right now, would the Vertex 3 be a reliable option?

As good as any other sandforce based SSD with up to date firmware.
