I purchased a Sony EH 53 AC adapter and it will not fit my Coolpix
4500. The female plug is too thick to insert in the camera. It is
advertised as for the 4500 - any comments

DUH! It's for a Sony. Not a Nikon!!! They are NOT interchangeable...

Did you buy it new or used? It's possible that the cable from the power
supply to the camera is the wrong one. Check the link for pictures (figure
2) and instructions.

I discovered that my Coolpix 4500 is a European model which has a
different size fitting for 220V. No the problem is find an AC adapter
for this model
