Where are they? They have not had inventory of these cards for what now? More than 2 months? What the hell is going on? lol I just do not understand why there are NONE of these cards anywhere. I wanted to wait and see how the gtx 480 would perform to see if I would be interested. I am not. OK, so ATI I now want to purchase your product, but ummm yea its not there!! Why? When are we going to see stocks of these cards again?

Also... I am not too sure of the purpose of this 2gb version of the 5870. Isn't that just the 5970? I mean the 5970 is 2gb right? I know the 5870 2gb would be a single card, but is that the sole purpose of it? Just to have a single card that will be 2gb? It just does not really make sense to me. Logic would say that a 2gb 5870 would still be roughly half the speed of a 5970.

Thanks for anyone who can kinda clear this up for me

Solution
Yes, however since the 5970 is "crossfire on a stick" it has an effective memory of only 1GB. Each GPU uses 1 GB of ram. So whenever you see a card, divide the ram on the card by the number of GPUs.

Now a 5870 2 GB would have a full 2 GB of usable ram.

Ohhhhh I see. Wow I never knew that. I learned something new today. So the gtx 295 for example is not actually 1700 mb of video ram.... interesting. Um yea I run a 2560x1600 reso so a 2gb card might come in handy for meh.

But still I would doubt that a 3x 2gb 5870 setup would out do a crossfire 5970. Unless I get really nuts and go for the 4x motherboard!! I just wish the 5870 scales as good as the gtx 480 does in sli/crossfire :??:

I got a mobo with 3x PCIe just in case I wanted to triple up a card. But right now it def looks like the 5970 in crossfire is the best way to go for a monster set up. I would go 3x gtx 480, but from what I hear the heat that would cause would just be INSANE. Yea I love my 2560x1600 screw multiple monitors. I could not stand the bezel. 2560x1600 is where its at! Worth every penny IMO

The cards are still trickling into the market, you have to put Newegg or whoever you plan on buying it from on the "auto notify". The usually disappear in a couple of hours.

Id guess thats where all the Ebayers are getting them and jacking another $100 on the price tag. Even the ones that "auction" go for 680+35 and up for shipping.

how do u know i dont have an invisible cloak? Exactly... thats what i though... but yea I hope there are healthy stocks of the 5970 soon. I mean why would ATI not wanna take advantage of nvidia as much as they can when they know they have the better card. Crazzzzy
