Compaq evo n1020v with 1GB mem but showing 512 MB

i have got a Compaq evo n1020v with 1GB of memory installed (2x512) running ubuntu 10.10.
but it only shows 512 MB of ram installed and if 1 module of 512 is installed is says 256.
but with a module of 256 there is no problem.

can anyone help me?

Have exactly the same issue installed 2 x 512MB modules and computer reads 2 x 256 on Compaq evo N1020v. it has been suggested to update the Bios but this did not solve the problem. have you resolved the problem.

no i did not, but i think it's a motherboard bug. something in the hardware.
