Hi,

I am thinking of getting an older AMD Athlon 64 X2 4000+. It is a 2.1 GHz, 65nm, 65 W.

It does not come with a heatsink, but I have a stock AMD heatsink from my AMD Athlon X2 5050e, 2.6 GHz, 45W.

It is the one pictured here:

Is it possible to use the stock heat sink with the older 65W, 2.1 GHz processor, or will it overheat?

Thanks

the 65nm athlon series runs quite cool, so it will work quite well with the 45watt heatsink, i had a 4400+ so i know

Thanks for the help. Did you run that with the 45W heatsink then?

it wont overheat you will be fine

i had to use a crappy emachines cooler in a slim case for a similar upgrade

the CPU never broke 55c at load, it will run warm but it wont be an real world issue
