New PC not working!

So I've been building my new computer, only to find that it doesn't work!

There is no beeping when i turn it on

I've got only the cpu, cpu fan & powersupply connected to the mobo, nothing else is plugged in and there is still no beep.

What does this mean?

My mobo is a GA-X58A-UD7, cpu is i7 930

I read somewhere that if I take the fan off, start it & the cpu gets hot, but theres not post, then it's the Mobo at fault.

Is this true?

What did you connected apart from the cpu, cpu fan and powersupply before you encountered this problem?
Have your tried putting the RAM before?
There should be two cables connection to your motherboard i.e. the 8PIN connector to the socket near the CPU and the 24PIN to the side. Are they both connected?

i forgot to plug in the 8 pin CPU power cable from the PSU *facepalm*

loaded up windows 7 install from boot now, everything working good, although it still doesn't make any beeps when the comp starts
