What speed of DDR3 shoud I buy ?

I have the Intel I7-870 CPU.

From the CPU specification (i7-870), it says
"2 Channels (DDR3 1333 MHz)"

Motherboard supports various speeds,
DDR3 800/1066/1333/1600(OC)/1866(OC)/2000(OC)

My question is,

should I buy 1333 MHz memory ? or If I buy higher speed, then does it lower its speed automatically ? say (1600MHz becomes 1333MHz)..

Thank you !

You can use 1600MHz RAMs too,but you have to set the timings, voltages and the speed of the RAM manually in the BIOS first.

Buying faster speed RAM has two advantages:

1. You can change the memory multiplier to run the RAM faster. What this does for you will depend on what you are doing ....little improvement in gaming .... significant improvement in large database access.

2. You can increase the system BCLK to overclcock the entire system. The tables here don't cover your CPU but I have it boomarked :)  ..... and it will give ya the general idea
