Question about memory

i have a problem with my mobo and my heatsink(corsair A70). i noticed i dont have enough room to use all 4 ramslots.
so i wondered if there is difference in performance when using 4, 3, 2 or 1 of the RAMslots. im asking because i want to upgrade from 4Gb to 8Gb ram

You are talking about 2x4GB vs 4x2GB ? If so,then with the first option,you have more room for upgrades later along with a better OC'ng potential.Aside from these two,there aren't any notable differences.
