I've been looking at replacing my CPU. Currently I'm running a AMD Athlon X2 5000+ Black Edition with an ULTRA Chiltec Thermo electric cooler. I wanted to bump up to something with 4 cores. I can Support and find AM2+ CPU's but, I've read and heard about the board being able to support AM3 CPU's with a quick bios update, and was wondering if anyone had any information on such? Assuming I can't run an AM3 CPU I'm looking into http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-471-_-Product

I would email or call DFI on your board first to find a bios update for the newer cpu. You'll need to flash the bios anyway with the old cpu first before installing the new one. They might even email you a bios file to flash. I don't see your board model on their website. No point in guessing about the cpu.

Hi and welcome to Tom's forum.

You can see the CPU support list for your mobo, http://www.dfi.com.tw/portal/CM/cmproduct/XX_cmproddeta... and support AM3 CPUs until Phenom II X4 955 C3 Revision, but you need update the BIOS version before install the new CPU.
