It requires at TOTAL disassembly, you have to separate the screen from
the base, then totally dismantle the base down to the motherboard. It's
seriously difficult for someone who isn't a trained technician. There
are instructions (with photos) on the web, a search should find them,
but this is a major job.

Thank you Barry..........I will not try this job now. I appreciate your help
a lot. The only reason I was trying to do it in the first place, I was
trying to reconstruct the formatted HD in this thing. The program that I
purchased to do the job, doesn't work in DOS. So I thought about taking out
the HD installing it into one of the external cases, and then try the
program (PC Inspector) to reconstruct the HD Maybe there is another method,
or program that will work from a DOS prompt. Anyway, again, thanks for
talking me out of this :-) Peter

It's below the keyboard but you will need to remove 8 screws at the
bottom, then the screws on the top panel and keyboard. I can send you
a diagram on how to do it.

No sound on IBM T40
By snurp85, 1 day ago:

Buried deep within the IBM website there is a page for downloading drivers for the T40. Just download and install the one needed for sound. http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/ [...] 6258#audio If you already have the driver installed, then id suggest reinstalling it for good measure. Try going into control panel and opening up the audio panel to make sure it isnt muted
