It is a pretty good board with lots of features and from a reliable brand, though I'm not a big fan of spending big bucks on a motherboard, any 80-100$ board from a respectable brand will do just as good. I have a 790fx because it was a great deal for $110 after rebates( normal $180) otherwise I'd have just bought a cheaper mobo.

the 790fx is running around 165.00 on newegg and the 890fx is 145.00 open box on newegg

Never buy open box motherboards, there can be manuals or accesories missing, and the previous owner could have mishandled it and it may still work without any signs of damage, but it's going to wear out faster down the road.

This is a pretty damn good mobo with lots of nice features and at a great price: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

ASRock is a subdivision of Asus btw, so they make quality stuff.

i want to XFIRE, will i notice a difference between the dual @ X8 versus a mobo that has dual @ x16?

Not with current cards, a 5870 only suffers 2-3% performance hit from the x8 bus, a 5970 about 5% less.
