which processror do i choose between these for gaming purpose:

Core i3 530 or AMD Athlon II X4 635 or AMD Processor Phenom II X2 555 Black Edition

The Athlon x4 635 would be the best then the i3 the Phenom x 2 would be far better if you can unlock 2 extra cores but its a gamble other wise it would be the worse. There is not a huge difference between any of them and they are all a good match with the 5770. Away from gaming I would still rate them the same as above but the 4 cores would be of even more benefit. The only reason to consider the i3 would be it should overclock further and the only reason to get the Phenom x 2 is to unlock 4 cores (which is the option I went with and it worked).

Well I did a little reasearch on the Passmark Performance charts and heres the scores:
I3 530- Score: 2730 Rank 140
X4 635 Score:3386 Rank 101
X2 550 Score:1882 Rank 217


So it looks as if the X4 would be better than the 530.

Actually the i3 530 is roughly equal to the Athlon II x4 635 and both are better than the Phenom II x2 555.

It's actually the best out of your options for modern games, as it's the only quad core and an increasing number of games utilize 4 cores.

Not mentioned in the above review is power usage. The i3 will sip less juice than the Phenom II.
