I was upgrading a relatives computer which got me thinking to upgrade one of mine. It is pentium D 3.2 935 prescott on a gigabyte 965p-s3 board with an apevia 500w psu with 1 6pin pci-e connector. I was thinking switching the video card to a ati 5770? Any problems with that or better recommendations, I would sincerely appreciate some opinions. Thanks!

Okay, u might be okay with HD 5770, because above that card your CPU will bottlenecking the card itself...
What is your monitor resolution?

No monitor for it yet, but I might bring a 1680x1050 22'' for it. I may upgrade to core 2 quad a little later the mobo supports it but I definitley am not looking to change everything out.

umm, before that, can u show us the link for your PSU?
Just to make sure whether it will suffice for 5770... :)

Your mobo 965P-S3 right?
So if i'm not wrong, the max CPU u can get is quad core Q6600.

yeah, u can upgrade to Coreâ„¢ 2 Extreme QX6800 or Coreâ„¢ 2 Quad Q6700 maximum. :)
But u must get the second-hand one, since they aren't sell anymore on the market...

About your PSU, i think it's an acceptable PSU, so go for that card(HD 5770).
